2014 June 10: Larry Ellison Live on the Future of Database Performance

10 June ‘14

At a live webcast on June 10 at Oracle’s Redwood Shores headquarters, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison is expected to announce the upcoming availability of Oracle Database In-Memory, which dramatically accelerates business decision-making by processing analytical queries in memory without requiring any changes to existing applications.

The announcement comes as organizations increasingly seek meaningful insight from high volumes of data in order to achieve competitive advantage. It marks the latest major innovation from Oracle, the database market leader for more than 35 years.

Real-Time, Ad Hoc Analytics

To drive faster, better decision-making, Oracle Database In-Memory uses a unique "dual-format" architecture to deliver outstanding analytical performance from a memory-optimized columnar store while automatically maintaining complete data consistency with transactions in the existing row format. The result: real-time decision-making on the freshest data with the fastest database performance.

“Oracle Database In-Memory enables near-instant analysis of data using existing tools and applications, allowing users to make better decisions faster and with greater confidence,” says Andrew Mendelsohn, Oracle’s executive vice president, Database Server Technologies.

Oracle’s Breakthrough Approach

Oracle Database In-Memory is built on top of the industry’s leading database technology, enabling 100 percent compatibility with existing applications and inheriting decades of investment in the functionality, robustness, and availability of Oracle Database. Compatibility with Oracle Partitioning, Oracle Real Application Clusters, and support for in-memory queries that simultaneously span memory, Flash, and disk storage enables databases of any size to benefit from the real-time analytics of Oracle Database In-Memory.

“Virtually every existing application that runs on top of Oracle Database will easily take advantage of Oracle Database In-Memory,” says Ellison. “Our customers don't have to make any changes to their applications whatsoever; they simply flip the in-memory switch and their Oracle Database is immediately capable of scanning data at a rate of billions of rows per second.”
